Search Engine Optimization For Blogs

Another important way to get your blog ranked is by using search engine optimization, otherwise known as SEO. There are two different parts of SEO that you must remember — offsite and on-site.

Offsite techniques include things such as building the back links that we just talked about. You want to get great links back to your site from other sites, but again quality is more important than quantity. Back links are like a vote. When Google or another search engine sees a link back to your site, they consider that to be a vote for your site.

If the other side is higher ranked than you, the vote means more to Google because it’s similar to your best friend telling you about a great restaurant. If you trust your best friend and value their opinion, you will believe them when they give you a recommendation. However, if a stranger on the street tells you about a great restaurant, you may not value their opinion quite as much because you don’t know them.

Google looks at back links in much the same way. When a site that is ranked higher than yours has a link back to your site, Google looks at that and gives it more weight than if you put back links on dozens of low authority sites. So, you want to look for sites that are higher ranked than yours, about a similar topic and link back to your site using relevant anchor text links.

There many different ways to get these kinds of links back to your site including providing quality content, contacting other bloggers in your niche, signing up for blog directories, joining blog networks and doing things like article marketing on the larger, higher PR article directories.

As for on-site SEO, quality content is key to making sure that you rank better. Think about things such as how you want to be found in the search engines. When people type in a particular keyword, they are looking to get relevant, quality content on a topic. Therefore, you want to be found for particular keywords within your niche. Think about which keyword you’re looking to be found for and write your blog posts using those keywords as the title.

There are also a number of plug-ins that you can use in WordPress that will help you set up your search engine optimization. Make sure to use these kinds of plug-ins to make your job easier. You can also link throughout your site to other pages on your site, which is called inter-linking. Again, use highly relevant anchor text to interlink your site.

As you can see, there is a lot to learn when it comes to blogging but many people do it every single day. There is a lot of money to be made in blogging if you do it correctly and continue to deliver quality content day after day, week after week, month after month. Building a list and building a following is going to be crucial to your success. Making all of these parts and pieces work together can create a lifetime stream of income that will pay you even while you sleep.
