How Do I Monetize My Blog?

Monetizing your blog can take any number of forms. One of the main ways that people monetize their blogs at first is by adding Google Adsense. You can sign-up for a free account at Google and they will automatically start running ads on your website after you place a small bit of code in the site’s dashboard. Don’t worry, they’ll walk you through that process if you don’t know how to do it.

Adsense is a great way to get started making money from your blog. The system will automatically pick up content from your blog and trying to deliver relevant ads for your content. However, for most successful bloggers, Adsense is just extra pocket change and not the real source of the money.

One potential income stream is from other advertising programs such as text link ads. There are several companies that do this such as Kontera and Infolinks, but it’s basically where the company will automatically read your content and place text links throughout the content that people can click on (very similar to Google Adwords or Adsense ads).

Another possible income stream on your blog is sponsored ads. These are ads that people actually pay to run on your blog, but of course this doesn’t happen until you can prove that you have high-traffic patterns that will make it attractive for potential advertisers. People don’t want to advertise on a ghost town, so you have to get some traffic coming in to lure good advertisers to your site.

By far, the best way to make income on a blog is by participating in affiliate programs. Affiliate programs are simply companies that will pay you a commission for selling their products. You don’t have to have inventory or worry about the shipment of the product, you are just an intermediary with special links on your page to get people to buy. Places like Amazon.com offer affiliate programs, as do many other companies. You can use the power of their reputation to get people to purchase the products that you can earn a commission.

Let’s say that you have a blog about fashion. You write articles all about different fashion styles that are popular this season. In each of your blog postings, you can give recommendations for fashions that match what you are talking about.

If the newest color this winter is going to be burgundy, you could link to some beautiful burgundy sweaters on Amazon.com or another retailer and earn a commission on the sales. This is the best of both worlds because you’re giving your customers what they want, but you’re also earning money in the process.

Of course, there are many other ways to make money from your blogs including networking with other blog owners and making guest posts on their blogs. Once you get into blogging, you will find out that there are always new innovations and ways to make money from your writing skills. You may even decide at some point to develop your own product about the topic that you’re blogging about.
